Cosmetics are mainly governed by the Federal Act on Foodstuffs and Utility Articles (FSA), the Ordinance on Foodstuffs and Utility Articles (FSO) and the Ordinance on Cosmetic Products.

The legislation on cosmetics includes provisions with regard to the required documentation, permitted substances, labelling, advertising and requirements as to the production process, hygiene etc.
