The Federal Council recommends rejecting the "Cost Control Initiative" ("Kostenbremse-Initiative")

12. April 2024 – On 9 June 2024, the eligible Swiss electorate will vote on the popular initiative "For Lower Premiums – Cost Control in the Healthcare System (Cost Control Initiative)". The initiative aims to curb rising healthcare costs and thus the growth of compulsory health insurance premiums. A cost control measure is intended to ensure that costs do not rise significantly above wages and economic growth. However, both the Federal Council and Parliament consider this cost control measure to be too rigid, as it does not take into account factors such as the ageing population and medical progress. They therefore recommend that the initiative be rejected.
