Genetic Testing

Due to remarkable scientific advances in the past decade, genetic testing not only enables screening for many hereditary diseases and endowments, but it has also become much faster and more affordable. However, genetic testing raises sensitive ethical and psychological questions. The Federal Act on Human Genetic Testing (HGTA) is currently being revised because it has become outdated in view of the scientific advances and the many “direct-to-consumer” genetic tests. The revised HGTA will close important gaps, for example with regard to genetic tests for non-medical purposes.
