European Medicines Agency: New oral GLP-1 Medicine for Weight Management and Type 2 Diabetes
The European Medicines Agency's (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has recommended granting a marketing authorisation for Foundayo (orforglipron), a once-daily oral GLP‑1 receptor agonist for weight management and the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. As a non-peptide GLP‑1 medicine, Foundayo provides an oral alternative to existing injectable GLP‑1 therapies. In clinical studies, the medicine demonstrated clinically meaningful reductions in body weight and HbA1c levels compared with placebo. The European Commission will now decide on the EU-wide marketing authorisation.
