EMA: First vaccine against swine dysentery disease recommended for approval
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has issued a positive opinion for Biobhyo, which would be the first vaccine authorised in the EU aimed at preventing swine dysentery. The vaccine is safe for animals, humans, and the environment when used according to the product information. Swine dysentery, caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, is a highly infectious disease affecting up to 90 % of pigs in infected herds, with a mortality rate of 30-50 %.
