FOPH: Federal Council approves the amendments to the International Health Regulations
At its meeting on 20 June 2025, the Federal Council approved the amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). In order to implement the amendments to the IHR, no amendments to national legislation or additional resources are necessary, since Switzerland already has the required capacities to prevent, prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
The IHR are a legally binding instrument of the World Health Organization (WHO), governing collaboration on prevention and control of the spread of infectious diseases. The amendment follows the need for improvement in certain points brought to light by the Covid-19 pandemic.
