FOPH: Popular initiative “Yes to Medical Care Security” – Federal Council opens consultation on direct counterproposal
At its meeting on 20 June 2025, the Federal Council has opened the consultation procedure on the direct counterproposal to the popular initiative “Yes to Medical Care Security”. The Federal Council shares the underlying concern of the initiative but finds it to be not effective or targeted enough. Therefore, it is proposing a direct counterproposal, which gives the Federal Government the power to intervene in a targeted manner in the event of impending shortages. The counterproposal targets four main areas: monitoring the market situation, procuring medicines, providing economic incentives for production and international cooperation.
