Swissmedic: Study confirms Swissmedic's competitiveness
A study conducted by the Centre for Innovation in Regulatory Science (CIRS) has found that Swissmedic's authorisation procedures for human medicinal products with new active substances are internationally competitive. Swissmedic was ranked second behind Japan in terms of the scientific assessment time, and on par with the European Medicines Association (EMA) regarding the total throughout time.
CIRS is an independent organisation specialising in the promotion of regulatory science. Its goal is to define global standards for the authorisation of medicinal products and accelerate market access to medicines. Each year, CIRS analyses and compares the authorisation processes for innovative medicines with new active substances from six leading regulatory authorities: EMA, FDA, PMDA, Health Canada, TGA, and Swissmedic.
