FOPH: Federal Council Simplifies Regulations Regarding the Dispensing of Medicinal Products
The Federal Council has simplified regulations for pharmacies to ease the dispensing of certain medicinal products without a doctor’s prescription. Medicinal products reclassified from category C to category B in 2019 can be dispensed without a doctor’s prescription, if pharmacists have direct contact with the patient and document the dispensing. To reduce administrative burdens, said minimum documentation requirements have been formalised in the Ordinance on Medicinal Products (Arzneimittelverordnung, VAM) to provide more clarity. Additionally, the Swiss Federal Council decided to discontinue the federal database for off-label paediatric dosages.
