Swissmedic: New options for registering devices in swissdamed: Online editor, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) interface, and Master UDI-DI registration

Swissmedic has extended the functions available to manufacturers, persons who assemble systems and procedure packs, and authorised representatives for registering devices in the UDI Devices module of swissdamed, the Swiss medical devices database. Two complementary registration routes are now available: a new, step-by-step online editor for manual data entry, requiring no specific technical expertise and aimed at companies with a limited product portfolio or little experience with XML uploads or automated interfaces; and a machine-to-machine (M2M) interface allowing device data to be transferred automatically in JSON format via a REST API, suited to companies handling large data volumes and users with strong technical expertise or specialised support. Swissmedic recommends testing any M2M implementation in the playground environment provided, in order to verify correct data transfer and avoid unnecessary rework or additional costs.

In addition, highly individualised products requiring a Master UDI-DI can now be registered – currently standard and made-to-order soft contact lenses and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses – whereas registration is not yet available for spectacle frames, spectacle lenses, or ready-made reading glasses.
