Swissmedic: Changes to the questions and answers and guidance document on mobile technologies

Swissmedic has revised the guidance document "Mobile technologies" and the "Questions and answers on mobile technologies" and clarified the requirements for the use of QR codes on medicinal product packaging. In practice, an increasing number of queries had arisen regarding the implementation of the requirements concerning the details and placement of URLs, the placement of QR codes, and captions for QR codes. The aim of the revision is to clarify which elements are mandatory and which are merely recommended; it has been made clear that aspects such as the use of a URL and the labelling of QR codes with a caption such as "Medicinal product information" are presented as recommendations. In addition, in response to questions on linking QR codes to particular platforms for the publication of medicinal product information, two new questions have been added to the "Questions and answers on mobile technologies". The revised guidance document and the two new questions and answers apply with effect from 1 August 2026.
